Book Review: Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

If you read Gone Girl and enjoyed it I would definitely recommend reading this book by Gillian Flynn.

Review:When Libby Day was 7 years old her mother and two sisters were massacred. She managed to survive by climbing out a window and hiding in the fields behind her home. The person who was arrested and convicted of the crime was Ben Day, Libby’s older brother. Decades later Libby meets Lyle Wirth, the leader of the Kansas City chapter of Kill Club, a group of people who get together and look into unsolved murder cases and famous cases from the past. Lyle and the people of the group believe Ben Day is innocent of all charges and they want Libby’s help to prove it, but she’s still hung up on what she thought she heard all those years ago… her brother killing her family.

It took me forever to read this book, not because I didn’t enjoy it but because I started watching the tv show Hawaii 5-0 and I’ve been hooked. Such a good show, gotta love Netflix.

I thought it was a good book, but definitely not as good as Gone Girl. Just like in Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn writes her main character as a detestable human being. She should be someone who is sympathetic, her whole family was murdered by her brother, but she isn’t. She is lazy, self centered, and a kleptomaniac. She thinks the world owes her a debt and finds ways to exploit the people around her. But that is just the type of character Flynn writes in her books though.
