Friday Finds: The Martian

It’s been a while since I did a Friday Finds post, mainly because I never know what to talk about with it. I know it’s to showcase books you added to your TBR so I think I’m going to try to remember to do this when I get new books.

This Friday Finds, hosted by A Daily Rhythm, is going to be a book review of The Martian because I added it to my TBR and started reading it a day later!

The Martian by Andy Weir; 369 pages

Mark Watney is stranded on Mars.

Six days after landing on Mars a vicious sandstorm hits forcing the crew to abandon their mission and return to Earth. The only problem is, Mark didn’t make it off Mars. With no means of communication and a limited supply of food and water, he must find a way to tell Earth he is still alive and somehow survive until they can send help …. which could take years.

Oh. My. God. This book was amazing!!!

It was so hyped up so I didn’t really think I would like it that much. I was so hesitant to reading because everyone was ranting and raving about it, I didn’t want it to fall short. Needless to say, it lived up to its hype. I could not put this book down.

Mark Watney is such a fantastic character! He is smart and downright hilarious. His internal monologue actually had me laughing out loud at times. There was a lot of technical stuff he would talk about but he talked about it with the assumption that the person reading it was science stupid (which I totally am). It made it so much easier to understand what was going on with all the science dumbed down.

I really do understand now why it has gotten such amazing reviews. It really was a fantastic book.
