Book Recommendation Sunday

I said I was going to do this regularly and totally didn’t, let’s see if I can stick with it this time!

This weeks book recommendation Sunday is going to be ……

The I Hunt Killers trilogy by Barry Lyga!!

This is going to be different from my normal reviews because I’m going to talk about why I liked these books before I give the descriptions because the further I go in the series the more spoilers there will be in the book descriptions.

So, awesome awesome series.

Jasper Dent, our main character, is trying to live down his fathers legacy as one of the 21st century’s most notorious serial killers. To do this he tries to help the police solve murders that his father could be involved in/instigated. His internal struggle with who he really is vs the person his father tried to turn him into is amazing to follow. You really feel for this kid because he is so young and struggles so much to not be the man his father wants him to be.

Jasper’s best friend is Howie, a hemophiliac, and his girlfriend is Connie. I loved and hated Howie. He was funny but a total teenage idiot. Connie I could have done without. I thought she was shallow and self centered and stupid. That being said, they really helped to move the story along. They get Jasper and he can’t pull his mind tricks on them like he can on other people.

The storylines themselves are really cool and really twisted. The first book is a story all to itself with a bit of a cliff hanger at the end. The second starts a whole new story which eventually ties into the first book and the third book is a continuation of the second. The writing is great and the continuos storyline really works because it’s not dragged out. You’ll be on the edge of your seat the entire time reading!

Just a warning, it is a twisted story and there are some slightly graphic descriptions in the book. Just want to throw that out there.

Time for the book descriptions!

I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga; 359 pages

Jasper Dent, aka Jazz, is the son of notorious serial killer,  Billy Dent. After someone starts murdering people in his hometown of Lobo’s Nod, the same way his father did, Jazz steps in to help the police solve the murder. Will solving a murder instead of committing one help Jazz out from under his father’s shadow?

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Game by Barry Lyga; 517 pages

It’s been months since Jazz helped the Lobo’s Nod police catch the Impressionist. Now there’s a serial killer loose in New York City and the police are stumped. When the killer singles out Jazz the NYPD has no choice but to bring him in on the case. Is this some random nut job singling Jazz out because of his father? Or is Billy somehow involved after his prison break?

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Blood of My Blood by Barry Lyga; 468 pages

Jazz is bleeding out in a storage locker.

Connie is being held captive by Billy Dent.

Howie is in the hospital after almost killing Gramma Dent.

Will things get better or worse for this trio of friends?
