Once Upon a Dream by Liz Braswell

Once Upon a Dream by Liz Braswell; 448 pages

What if Maleficent was good?

What if the fairies were evil?

What if the king and queen destroyed their kingdom?

What if Aurora never went to live in the forest? Never met her true love? Was raised to be given to the fairies and Maleficent saved her?

Or what if it is all a dream?

I really liked most of this book.

I really liked the whole concept of the book. I love the idea of everything in the classic Disney fairy tale going wrong and they have to fight to get it back on track. I enjoyed the story telling and I really enjoyed the writing.

What I didn’t like… The characters. Maleficent wasn’t bad. She was he bad guy pretending to be the good guy to fool the good guy and I had no problem with her character.

I was not a fan of Aurora or Prince Phillip. I get it that Aurora was supposed to be your hero who is discovering herself but … She was so lazy. And she could be so dumb. I know she lived a sheltered life but I expected something a little more from her. And Phillip was just so lovey dovey and it was so obnoxious. He had his moments but he mostly annoyed me too. He could be such a baby.

Other than the two main characters I really enjoyed the book. I know they’re a huge part of it but it was a good story.
