Summary:

Paige Mahoney is a clairvoyant, a dreamealker to be more specific. In Scion London she is seen as unnatural, dangerous… so she must keep it hidden. But when she accidentally kills someone with her ability, she is taken away to a place that was supposedly destroyed and she gets wrapped up in a world she didn’t know exists.

My thoughts:

I have been seeing this book all over the Internet for years now. All I’ve seen is good reviews and I thought it sounded good so I thought it was finally time for me to pick it up!

The beginning of this book is one gigantic info dump. There was so much to take in and it could be a little confusing at times. But it was all so interesting. Since it’s written almost like our history, it felt like I was reading a history book with the way the information was presented. Everything else about the book was just a really well written fantasy novel. I really enjoyed the way the story was being told. It is so detailed and intricately woven. The writing is beautiful.

I really like Paige as a character. She is smart and she’s strong and she’s determined. I love her unwavering loyalty and her stubbornness. I also love that you can see something changing in her as the story goes on. Warden makes her stronger, even though she wouldn’t want to admit it. And I am starting to see why everyone loves Warden so much as a character. He’s a great character and he makes the story so much more interesting. The overall story was pretty amazing as well. I loved all the character development you see in this first book, it was incredible.

Needless to say, I think Samantha Shannon is an incredibly talented writer after reading this book. After the way it ended, I really cannot wait to read The Mime Order!
