Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes; 306 pages
Dinah is the future queen of Wonderland. But with her coronation fast approaching things begin to change. Dinah has a new half sister that her father loves like he could never love her. And her father is becoming more and more paranoid and Dinah wants to get to the bottom of it.
It was good but it wasn’t great. I say this because I expected more from Dinah as a character. As the future queen of Wonderland I expected her to be a bit more fierce. She had her moments where that fire showed through but it wasn’t enough for me. She was just an okay main character.
This definitely had Wonderland undertones. You had your future Queen of Hearts, Cheshire, and the Mad Hatter. You even had hintings at tweedle dee and tweedle dumb … it will be interesting to see who else gets incorporated into the story as it goes on.
I really liked the world Colleen Oakes created in this book. She depicts Wonderland and the castle as being beautiful but with dark undertones. I’m curious if we will get to see some of the darker parts of Wonderland in the second book.
Hopefully I’ll get around to reading the second book soon!
